As a child I always played with dolls, not really played, I would undress and recreate new outfits for them. I remember being very young and finding remnants to cut and sew on my mothers black Adler sewing machine.
I also love animals, all kinds of creatures and have surrounded myself with many throughout my life. I had thoughts to become a veterinarian, I knew I would have been a good one. However all the schooling seemed daunting, so I pursued fashion design and earned a living for over 40 years creating custom gowns. There is something so magical about transforming a great fabric into a garment of fluidity and beauty.
I became obsessed with ceramics a little over ten years ago. And love the feel of how tactile it can be. Clay can be so precise in a functional piece and also organic and free flowing in another. When introduced to porcelain some years back my mind would go back to porcelain dolls...
My grandma King had these porcelain dolls... that I’ve often thought about. They scared me back then but now thinking back they were perfect.
These creatures are a combination of my three passions... my love of textiles... creatures... and porcelain... my fantasy.
